Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf steps down

Zaka Ashraf stepped down from his position as the Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday. This decision comes 16 days before the completion of his extended three-month term, which began on November 4 last year.

Ashraf submitted his resignation to the patron-in-chief of PCB, Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, immediately after chairing his final IMC meeting. During this meeting, the committee approved the financial accounts and finalized the budget for the upcoming ninth edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), scheduled to commence on February 17.

Mr Zaka Ashraf chaired the fourth meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Management Committee on Friday at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

In confirmation of his departure, Zaka Ashraf explained to Dawn that he no longer had enough time to fulfil his duties as PCB chairman due to other commitments. He expressed his appreciation to the patron for the trust placed in him during his tenure and stated that he had done his best to carry out his responsibilities.

Under Ashraf’s leadership, the team underwent restructuring after the World Cup. However, the squad’s performance has been subpar since then.

During the final IMC meeting led by Ashraf, the financial accounts were approved, and the budget for the upcoming edition of the PSL was given the green light.

“The decision to resign was not an easy one, but I believe it is in the best interest of the PCB,” Ashraf remarked. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman and contribute to the development of cricket in Pakistan.”

The PCB will now begin the process of appointing a new chairman to lead the organization forward.
